St. Augustine, FL

Home Up

St. Augustine, Florida's claim to fame is that it is the oldest continuously occupied town in the U.S. It does indeed have some beautiful, old buildings. Most of the ones in walking distance from our anchorage were occupied by unique touristy shops. We only checked out the wine store and the classy half-priced book store on our long walk. That was enough to earn us a beer at Scarlett O'Hara's.

We would love to visit St. Augustine again when the weather is cool enough to enjoy walking, but will most likely forgo it. It is the least 'cruiser friendly' town we've been in. There are so many tourist that they don't need business from cruisers. To emphasize this point, the city dinghy dock is $7.00 per day. We didn't mind the cost when we wanted to spend the day touring the town. It was a different matter when we wanted only to do laundry the next day.
